What is a Bully?

A bully can be seen with many different definitions. the most common one is found in a dictionary.

bul·ly

[bool-ee]

noun, plural -lies, verb, -lied, -ly·ing,

  1. a blustering, quarrelsome, overbearing person who habitually badgers and intimidates smaller or weaker people.
But this is just one definition for a bully, whether it is some one's version of "teasing" or "antagonizing" the truth is, no one really knows how to the other person really feels. some one's form of entertainment that is directed at being meaningless fun, could actually lead to some one having mental issues, even if they do not show.

Take a case scenario:
John doe is five and goes to school with many kids who are bigger than him. John's classmates tease him about his size, as what they think is a joke. (keep in mind that even if you wouldn't do this, some one else might.) Although there is nothing wrong with teasing about an appearence, John is told that he is fine the way he is by his family. Everyday John would deal with being short, always having to ask for help for stuff that he couldn't reach himself. his stature also made him not so good at sports. the kids may have teased him about it, jokingly of course, but when John heard it, he always thought there was somthing wrong with him.
What may seem like mindless fun, could end up being mean toward some one else mind frame. it is hard to really put a definition on a bully or even find one for that matter because some times people do not talk about their problems. therefore it is not always easy to find who a bully is. Bully comes in many forms, physical, mental, and even through technology. The right job would be to work together to find people who feel that they are being bullied and help them cope with it, talk about it, or to turn the bullying into something positive.

Some Forms of Bullying
PHYSICAL:

  • Hitting
  • Kicking
  • Pushing or Shoving
  • Punching
  • Stealing

VERBAL:

  • Teasing
  • Name-Calling
  • Insulting

RELATIONSHIP:

  • Refusing to talk to someone
  • Spreading rumors
  • Making someone do some thing they don't want to do
Sometimes Bullying may not seem like it exists in our world, because when someone thinks of bullying they think of some one beating on another person, but now, in this day in age, a bully is usually someone who uses verbal bullying to torture some one's emotions, without knowing they are doing so. Usually the bully has some sort of emotional problem in their background, wether it be mental, emotional, or way of coping with family matter or some other form of problem in their life.

Can you think of any one who may have endured some form of bullying or what type of bullying is the worst?
